Broken

Not anyone in our family has broken a bone. I can't say that anymore. It wasn't me or Ashley. It wasn't even Bryce. It was Brenna. She took a tumble off the side of the slide in our backyard one evening. With big crocodile tears, she came inside and blamed it on Bryce (he didn't do it). I couldn't tell anything was wrong. I sent her back out to play. She wouldn't go. I had her lay down while I finished dinner. When the crying wouldn't stop, I went to check her out again. By now (it wasn't too long), her wrist had finally started swelling. At the clinic, she was put in a soft cast that was wrapped in purple. Brenna was good with the color. Purple is one of her favorites. Two weeks later she was able to have a short hard cast. This one was pink, waterproof, and everyone could write on it. She even got to show it to Santa.

I think she enjoyed showing it to everybody she met. Most people were able to sign it, but with a warning, "Don't wite big!" A girl has to save room for more people to sign her cast.

The broken wrist didn't slow her down for long. Soon, she was seen running with the sling flapping behind her. The only side effect was a couple of extra bruises on her because she couldn't catch herself if she tripped. I hope that this is the only broken bone in our house. It was enough for me.

Come Dance with Me

My Family - L to R: Aunt Peggy, Mom, Dad, Tony

Uncle Gene and I am in the front

I grew up with my Dad's family in North Carolina. We would go and visit about every summer. Some years we stayed at the beach with Uncle Gene and Aunt Peggy in what my young eyes saw as a big house (it wasn't that big) filled with love and laughter. Oh, how I want my kids to know that feeling. We would spend evenings on the deck with the "boombox" listening to the oldies and the waves roll in. Uncle Gene would bug and bug me until he would get me to dance (kind of) with him. Believe it or not I could be shy. It is a precious memory that was brought to the surface as I heard one of the Drifter's songs today. I hope that my children will have these memories as they grow older.

Here's to hoping that the next generation will get to hear the oldies and dance on the deck this summer.

In the Dark

Since I just let you have a taste of Bryce, it has to be Brenna's turn. She is a stinker, but a sweet one. An adorable little girl that really likes to have her way. One great example came the other night, when Ashley was trying to watch football. Brenna really wanted to play Dora on the Wii. She asked her daddy and the reply was always the same. No. She quit asking and went to get her play phone (in other words - an old, dead cell phone). Brenna handed it to her dad and said, "Watch the game on this phone." Now, what you should know, is that Ashley and I don't have smart phones, and she doesn't get to watch stuff on my phone (it's not capable). Ashley opened the phone and looked at the screen. He says, "I can't see them." She takes the phone back, opens it and says, "Daddy, they are playing in the dark! Look!" Needless to say, she got to play Dora after Ashley finished watching TV.

Growing Pains

As everyone who has kids know, they can say the funniest things. One of my favorites from Bryce came when he was about 3 years old. He slept in his sleeping bag that night and woke up especially grumpy. When I asked if he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, he replied, "No, I didn't. It was the wrong side of the zipper." The things that he says is not always entertaining, but he makes me smile quite a bit of the time.

Most recently, his legs had been hurting. When he asked me why they hurt, I explained that they were growing pains. He didn't say much. The next day I was bombarded with questions. As each question was answered, I could picture what he was so worried about.

"Mom, will my arms grow, too?" (I pictured him with short arms.)

"Will the leg that hurts worse grow more than the other leg?" (Now, the picture in my mind had different leg lengths.)

I reassured him that he would grow "evenly". But what a picture he had painted from his questions. I just know that he had close to the same picture.

I'm so thankful that God gave us Bryce. Couldn't imagine life without him.

Welcome Ya'll

I finally decided to try it. Just sit down and write (okay, blog) about our life and family. I'll tell you right now that it won't be glamorous or riveting, but maybe I'll be able to get you to chuckle or at least smile as I take you on a walk through my life. Most days as I drive my kids around I picture myself as just hanging on to the antennae and the wind trying to blow me off. In other words, I just want to enjoy the ride of life that is speeding by too fast.

I'll let you meet the people that join me on the ride.

My husband, Ashley, is wonderful. A business owner and CPA, he stays busy especially THAT time of year. He's wonderful and I couldn't ask for anything more. Don't know where I would be without him.

Bryce, my son - He's 7 going on, well, 8. He would tell you about a month from now he'll turn eight. I can't belive it, but I'll get into that later. He's an avid reader and loves school. Football, basketball, baseball, golf, racquetball are just a few sports that he enjoys. He also has big plans to learn to play an instrument. We're still deciding which one.

Brenna - my daughter and sometimes (okay, maybe a bunch) my mini me. She's three, and she's busy. She's goes to MDO two days a week and has Madeline to care for (you'll meet her later). She's funny and outgoing. Oh, did I forget to mention stubborn?! AND REALLY LOVES HER BROTHER (enought to drive him crazy)!
